Fox Creek Wines was born when a small group of doctors and their wives decided to realise a lifelong passion - creating wine from bare earth and sunshine. The earth was found at McLaren Vale, one of South Australia's premier wine regions, renowned worldwide for its Shiraz.
As they believe wine is made principally in the vineyard, great attention is given to caring for the vines. Many of the vineyards are trellised to expose the grapes to sunshine and free movement of air which reduces susceptibility to disease. The premium wines are sourced entirely from grapes grown in the McLaren Vale region and most of them from our own vineyards.
Leader of the pack and the first wine made at Fox Creek was the 1994 Shiraz, which won the trophy for the best wine at the McLaren Vale Wine Show in 1995. Fox Creek has subsequently won this award in 1998 and 2003. Subsequent vintages of this wine, now called the Reserve Shiraz, have achieved international acclaim. Fox Creek's success continues with many wines recognised with trophies and medals from both national and international shows. The range of wines made by Fox Creek has gradually increased to fourteen.
Matured in 1-4 year old French and American oak barrels for 18 months. Impenetrable inky black heart with a vibrant dark red black hue. Ripe blackberry and liquorice aromas escape from the glass followed by some cassis, red currant, light earth and spicy vanillin cedar notes. Juicy blackberry, liquorice and red currant fruits fill the mouth.
This wine showcases raspberry and cherry fruit, with a silky mid palate of vanilla, plums and dark chocolate, while the balanced acid and youthful tannins give the wine vibrancy, length and definition.
A rich and vibrant fruit driven front palate layered with plums, blackberry and red cherry that lead into a smooth mid palate of crème brûlée, dark chocolate and hints roasted coffee bean. Lively grape tannins provide structure and focus from start to finish. Fruit richness and a luscious mid-palate is the hallmark of this wine style, with sympathetic and balanced oak completing the traditional Shiraz flavour and structural profile.
Individually selected Cabernet Sauvignon parcels were chosen to achieve an elegant, stylish and varietal wine. Sourced from premium vineyards, each block expresses the terroir of the land it was harvested. Each batch was matured in oak and the final blend showcases the layers of flavour and tannin profile desired. This wine provides lifted varietal aroma, a rich mid palate and complex, well-ripened tannins that show power and structure.
