The fruit is 100% McLaren Vale Grenache hand-picked from two very small 1910's planting's at Blewett Springs. The 2004 mild season really suited these hardy old vines with their deep roots. Medium red purple in colour. The wine displays complex leather & spice bouquet with notes of cherry and prune. An elegant multi-layered palate wich has savoury herb notes with subtle berry flavours gracefully balanced with lively acidity and powder dry tannin. The seamless smooth palate finishes refreshingly dry with lingering warmth.. Shows finesse.

This unique parcel of Grenache, sourced from a single, old vineyard (128 years) in the hamlet of Greenock, has successfully endured eighteen months maturation in new French barriques.

The 2004 Les Amis is a direct and distinctive reflection of the 2004 Vintage – flamboyant, rich and elegant. The nose flows from lavender, violets, black cherries and squashed raspberries to liquorice and spice.

The overtly opulent palate is silky smooth, persistent and spicy, with a hint of refreshing, juicy fruit just to remind you that this is actually Grenache.

Established in 1978, Greenock Creek is a tiny Barossa winery with a production level of only 2500 cases per year, owned by Michael and Annabel Waugh. These wines, fashioned from old, low-yielding vineyards, have accumulated quite a reputation. Greenock Creek Wines is situated at Seppeltsfield in the rolling hills between the hamlets of Greenock and Marananga, on the western edge of the Barossa Valley. The winery's first release was in 1988. The range of wines includes five Shiraz, two Cabernet Sauvignons and a Grenache, all processed at the winery on the Waugh’s Roennfeldt Road property.

For this exceptional Grenache we selected parcels of fruit from our “War Horse” vineyard planted in 1944 and our “Katunga” block planted in 1968. The handpicked parcels were fermented in our original concrete vats, with thrice daily pump overs. After primary fermentation the wine was drained and the must basket pressed, added together then matured in older French oak barriques, thus ensuring distinctive varietal characters are maintained.
The wine displays as exotic perfumed nose of red cherry, rose petal, raspberry and hints of spice and chocolate, with the palate delivering rich raspberry, spicy black plum, mulberry, fruit cake and a touch of toffee apple, enhanced by fine grain tannins. This quintessential Grenache exhibits great power and length of flavour. Will develop under the right cellaring conditions for up to 10 years.
