The signature Lime Cave Cabernet and Ellen Street Shiraz reds are acclaimed for their cellaring potential and purity of expression. The white wines achieve freshness and superb varietal character via slow, cool ferments that capture the delicacies of the grapes.
Maxwell Ellen Street Shiraz 2000 750mL
What was originally known for over 100 years as Ellen Street runs along the southern boundary of the Maxwell vineyards. Situated between this road and the winery is a small vineyard of craggy, gnarled Shiraz vines planted in 1953. Every year these vines bear some of the best fruit on the estate, however in very small quantities, with an average crop of between 1 and 2 tonnes per acre.

The Cabernet Sauvignon for this wine originates from wines planted in 1972 above the Lime Cave, on the crest of the estate vineyard. The intense concentrated dark berry and mint, lingering tanins and the finely balanced nature of the wine reflects the individual terrior of the McLaren Vale.

Located in the world-famous McLaren Vale wine district in South Australia, the winery and vineyards benefit from one of the most favourable sites in the region, providing the wines with a unique expression of the acclaimed McLaren Vale richness and style. Maxwell of McLaren Vale red wines in particular are appreciated worldwide for the purity of fruit and complementary oak handling. With an annual crush of around 250 tonnes only, the winery is able to separately vinify and mature individual vineyard parcels, maintaining the delicacies and nuances of each batch prior to final blending.
